From Playbill: The long-running Off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks reaches an unsurpassed 21,000 performances Feb. 8, having played in New York City for a total of 52 years.

The Fantasticks add special performances for Christmas Eve and New Year's Day!
In an interview with The Fantasticks’ Tom Jones, Seattle theatre writer John Longenbaugh tried to nail down what makes The Fantasticks such an "amazing show.” The insightful discussion ranged from the origins of The Fantasticks before the original off-Broadway run to Jones' continued involvement in the show and beyond. Long-time fans may find the discussion of the decision to change the final line to be of particular interest, as well as Jones’ description of The Fantasticks as “a celebration of the theatre.”
The Fantasticks' Max Crumm and Samantha Bruce co-hosted Broadway in Bryant Park on another spectacular afternoon with 106.7 Lite FM's Christine Nagy. To conclude an afternoon with some of the best of Broadway and Off-Broadway, Max and Samantha performed the classic "Soon It's Gonna Rain." Last night, on September 15, The Fantasticks performed it's 20,000th performance in New York City. Preceding the show, Tom Jones reflected on the more than fifty years of history - after the show, the party kicked off. Steven Duskin of The Huffington Post said of the performance; "what most impressed me this time was how fresh and alive this material is... pure joy". The Associated Press described it as a "mind-boggling milestone."
Tom Jones in an excerpt from The New York Daily News, Sept 15. 2013: "I was in the original cast in 1960 and I returned to play the same role on the 50th anniversary," he says. "As I crawled out of the old theatrical trunk to make my entrance, I was suddenly struck by the realization that everything was the same. The world around us had undergone vast changes," Jones continues. "So many of my friends and fellow actors had passed away. But this tale we were telling, this parable about growing up, was still able to touch people, to make them laugh and weep, after all these years. And I was very moved by that."
